559 First Street Townhouse
Brooklyn, New York
Designed for a growing young family in Brooklyn, much of the original woodwork of the 100+ year-old townhouse remains intact and well preserved. As a result, the extensive renovation needed to be ‘surgical’ to preserve the original details wherever possible, transforming the residence to accommodate modern living. New skylights and light shafts were incorporated into the design to bring natural light into the home's interior spaces. A new corner opening in the rear facade was created to maximize light and air for the garden floor kitchen and dining nook.
